Honoring the Life and Work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As we prepare to celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we remember his commitment to finding the dignity in each and every person. He left behind a legacy of opportunity and equality for all.

Dr. King believed in dignity and respect for every person and that all of us were created in the image of God. We have all heard and read Dr. King’s sermons and we can see that his faith and work to empower the individual transformed a quiet hope into a powerful movement that swept across America. His life’s work has changed the way each of us thinks and feels about equality under the law, and led us to the firm conviction that God is not neutral between cruelty and justice.

Missouri is dedicated to continuing Dr. King’s legacy and work. Every day we are working to promote the educational opportunities and economic growth that are necessary to lift Missourians out of poverty and empower them to be successful in their own lives.

On Monday we will pause to honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dream of equality for all. Let us remember that dream of equality not only on this day of honor, when we formally celebrate his influence on our lives, but throughout the year.
