First Lady to Lend Support to Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build

JEFFERSON CITY–First Lady Melanie Blunt will lend her support to the River City Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build on Saturday, Jan. 14. Mrs. Blunt will be joined by Gov. Matt Blunt and Branch.

“Habitat for Humanity has great opportunities for women volunteers,” Mrs. Blunt said. “I am honored to lend my support to this worthy cause and to help a family realize the dream of owning a home.”

The Women’s Build program was created to encourage women to help build homes for Habitat for Humanity. Women have built over 650 Habitat for Humanity homes across the United States. The program is designed to establish an atmosphere that women can learn skills they might never have the opportunity to learn. Women make up 50 percent of Habitat for Humanity’s volunteers.

“Donating time and resources to help ensure all members of our community have a safe and healthy place to live is one of the most basic needs that we can help to meet,” Blunt said.
