First Lady Melanie Blunt Expands Governor's Mansion Tours to Include Saturday Hours

JEFFERSON CITY - First Lady Melanie Blunt announced today that beginning in May, the Missouri Governor's Mansion will be open for regularly scheduled tours on Saturdays for the first time in 30 years. The new Saturday hours are in addition to weekday times already accessible to visitors.

"So many Missouri families and visitors are in Jefferson City during the weekends, and we want to share this historic treasure with as many of them as possible," Mrs. Blunt said. "This is the first time in more than 30 years regularly scheduled tours of the Mansion will be available on Saturdays and we hope this will allow more Missourians to visit us."

The Governor's Mansion was built in 1871 and has been the home of 33 Missouri First Families. Tours of the Mansion's restored first floor are coordinated by Missouri Mansion Preservation, Inc. (MMPI) and are given by volunteer docents attired in reproduction period costumes by reservation.

Saturday tours will be scheduled in the same way as regular Mansion tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All tours require an advance reservation of at least 24 hours, which are confirmed by phone, fax, or e-mail. Reservations may be made by calling (573) 751-7929 or by visiting MMPI's website at www.missourimansion.org. There are no tours in August or December. This year there will be no tours beginning in July due to planned repairs to the Mansion. In December, the annual Holiday Candlelight Tours are held on the first weekend of the month. Governor's Mansion tours are accessible to persons with special needs.

Gov. Matt Blunt and Mrs. Blunt have been strong advocates for the Missouri Governor's Mansion as well as historic preservation efforts across the state. Mrs. Blunt worked to secure funding for much-needed repairs and restoration at the Missouri Governor's Mansion that will ensure the historic site remains a treasure for future generations.
