FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE First Lady Leads Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure TeamKANSAS CITY –First Lady Melanie Blunt today led a team of volunteers in the Susan G. Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure ®. The race raises support for breast cancer education, research, support and treatment. “I have worked to encourage Missouri women to take time for breast cancer screenings and to promote breast cancer research and awareness, and I am delighted to join the Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer,” Mrs. Blunt said. “It is an honor to walk with survivors, supporters and family members who are united towards a common goal and is very encouraging to serve as a team captain to raise support for the Race.” Promoting breast cancer awareness is an important aspect of the First Lady’s women’s wellness initiative. Like many Missouri families, Mrs. Blunt was touched by breast cancer, when as a teenager she lost her mother to the disease. She serves as spokesperson and honorary chair for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Mid-Missouri Affiliate and is committed to encouraging Missouri women to take time for breast cancer screenings and to promoting breast cancer research and awareness. Mrs. Blunt has participated in Komen for the Cure events for several years. Almost three dozen participants joined the First Lady on TEAM MELANIE BLUNT, including Gov. Matt Blunt. ###
