First Lady Melanie Blunt Celebrates Good Neighbor Day

JEFFERSON CITY–First Lady Melanie Blunt today participated in Good Neighbor Day, helping distribute 15,000 roses to promote friendship and goodwill.

“Good Neighbor Day is a great chance to say thank you to a friend or neighbor and presents a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the warm hearts and friendly smiles that make Missouri such a wonderful place to live,” Mrs. Blunt said. “Living in the Capital City, I am especially pleased I was able to take part in River City’s annual rose giveaway.  Not only is it fun to give away so many roses, it is also a great way to share a smile with a neighbor and give them 11 reasons to pass that smile to someone else.”

Mrs. Blunt helped distribute 15,000 roses in bunches of a dozen at River City Florist and Greenhouse. The roses are free to anyone who visits the shop and promises to keep only one rose for themselves and give the others to 11 different people. The event is part of a Good Neighbor Day tradition focused on creating a friendlier, more caring and compassionate world and also helps raise money for the local United Way Campaign. This is the third year Mrs. Blunt has participated in the event.
