Blunt Works to Protect Nation’s Historic Resources
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt joined members of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) in Washington, D.C. to discuss historic preservation policies for the United States.
“Historic preservation respects our past while also securing a legacy for future generations. I love America's diverse and beautiful history and it is a real privilege to serve on this important council,” Blunt said. “Our historic sites, buildings, documents and grounds help tell the story of our nation and help us build on the triumphs and accomplishments of those who have gone before us.”
The ACHP is a federal agency created in 1966 to advise the president and Congress on historic preservation policies. The council is comprised of 20 members who make recommendations for protecting the country’s heritage and reviewing federal programs and policies to ensure effectiveness and consistency.
Blunt was appointed by President Bush to the council in March 2006. Missouri has long been a national leader in historic preservation. In 1998 the state began offering the Missouri Historic Preservation Tax Credit to provide incentives for rehabilitation.
