Blunt Congratulates 2005 AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps Graduates

JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt today congratulated sixteen Missourians who graduated after 10 months and 1,700 hours of service as members of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC).

Over 1,100 young adults ages 18 to 24 are serving their country by joining AmeriCorps NCCC this year. Members of NCCC receive training in all aspects of community service. Projects address needs in the environment, education, housing, hunger, youth services and disaster relief.

This year’s members participated in projects that included wildland forest fire fighting and fire fuel reduction, National Forest trail and camp restoration, tutoring youth, housing construction and rehabilitation for low-income families and community security. NCCC members also aided in the disaster relief efforts in Florida following the hurricanes last fall and this summer.

The following is a list of graduates from Missouri:

Fisher, Romano and Wolz were also recipients of Congressional Awards. Individuals who complete 100 hours of volunteer public service, 50 hours of personal development, 50 hours of physical fitness and one overnight expedition in addition to the 1,700 hours required to complete the AmeriCorps NCCC program receive Congressional Awards.
