Blunt Commends Missouri Students Involved With Katrina Relief Efforts

JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt commends the efforts of five Missourians supporting the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts as members of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC).

AmeriCorps NCCC trains young adults ages 18 to 24 in all aspects of community service and disaster preparedness. All members are Red Cross trained and CPR certified.

There are more than 200 AmeriCorps NCCC members actively supporting the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts through the Red Cross and FEMA. Members are helping out in shelters and working in staging areas and warehouses. Members are serving in Montgomery, Alabama; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Biloxi, Hattiesburg, Jackson, McComb and Pascagoula, Mississippi.
