Blunt Announces up to $250,000 in AmeriCorps Grants
JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt announced that A.T. Still University of Health Sciences Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and American Humanics Inc. AH/ProCorp are recipients of AmeriCorps National Professional Corps Grants that could total as much as a quarter million dollars.
A.T. Still University of Health Sciences AHEC, located in Kirksville, has the potential to receive $120,000. AHEC members provide medical, social work and health services to individuals in rural and medically underserved areas. AHEC plans to use the grant to work with health care agencies and training programs at various levels to recruit 120 AHEC Professional Corps members annually for employment in rural and underserved communities. American Humanics Inc. AH/ProCorp headquartered in Kansas City may receive up to $130,000 to provide college students who become Professional Corps members an intensive year of service as volunteer managers for nonprofits working with at-risk youth from disadvantaged communities in inner cities and rural areas.
