Blunt Makes Appointments to State Boards and Commissions

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt announced appointments of members who will serve on various state boards and commissions.

Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board

Peggy E. Adams, 64 of Kirkwood, is an active volunteer within her community. Ms. Adams holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology from Morningside College in Iowa. Her reappointment to Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board B is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on April 7, 2009.

Katherine (Katie) D. Hilton, 56 of Lebanon, is an administrative assistant to the mayor and city administrator of Lebanon. Ms. Hilton holds a bachelor’s degree in writing from Southwest Missouri State University. Her reappointment to Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board A is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on April 7, 2010.

Dam and Reservoir Safety Council

Jeffrey D. Cawlfield, 49 of Rolla, is a professor of geological engineering and director of the freshman engineering program at the University of Missouri- Rolla. Dr. Cawlfield holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Washington State University and a master’s and doctorate in civil engineering from the University of California- Berkeley. His reappointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on April 3, 2009.

Hazardous Waste Management Commission

Patrick M. Gleason (R), 61 of Webster Groves, is the technical service and quality control manager for Microfinish Company. Mr. Gleason holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from St. Louis University. His reappointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on April 3, 2009.

Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission

Daniel R. Mandell, 50 of Kirksville, is an associate professor of history at Truman State University. Dr. Mandell holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Humboldt State University, master’s in history from the University of Virginia, master’s of urban and environmental policy from Tufts University and a doctorate in history from the University of Virginia. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending at the pleasure of the governor.

Missouri Board of Architects, Professional Engineers,
Professional Land Surveyors and Landscape Architects

Michael C. Freeman, 59 of Hermitage, operates Freeman Land Survey. Mr. Freeman holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Drury University. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on Sept. 28, 2010.

Missouri State Board of Chiropractic Examiners

Paul Nahon, 73 of Springfield, is a real estate broker. Mr. Nahon has served on numerous Greene County Boards and the Missouri Dam and Reservoir Safety Council. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on Jan. 24, 2010.

Missouri Veterinary Medical Board

Linda Hickam-Fountain, D.V.M., 49 of Thompson is a veterinarian at Veterinary Clinic, Inc. Dr. Hickam-Fountain holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education, master’s in education and doctor of veterinary medicine from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her reappointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending August 29, 2010.

Seismic Safety Commission

Gregory L. Hempen, 56 of Affton, is a geophysicist for URS Corporation. Dr. Hempen holds a bachelor’s degree in geophysical engineering from St. Louis University, master’s of geo-engineering from the University of Minnesota and doctorate in geological engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. His reappointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on July 1, 2010.

State Board of Podiatric Medicine

Jeffrey Appleman, D.P.M. (R), 37 of Jackson operates a private podiatry practice. Dr. Appleman holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Graceland College and a doctor of podiatric medicine from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. His reappointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending July 1, 2010.
