Blunt Makes Appointments to State Boards, Commissions and Councils

JEFFERSON CITY –Gov. Matt Blunt announced appointments of members who will serve on several boards, commissions and councils.

Advisory Commission for Dental Hygienists

Debra F. Adams, 48 of Lebanon, is a dental hygienist. Adams holds a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a master’s of health services management from Webster University. Adam’s reappointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on March 22, 2011.

Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners

Leila L. Cohoon, 74 of Lake Lotawana, is the educational director and founder of the Independence College of Cosmetology. Cohoon is a member of the AMERICAS Ladies Division and Esthetics Division. Cohoon’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on May 1, 2009.

Children’s Trust Fund Board

Dr. Nuzhat Nisar, 56 of Ballwin, is a pediatrician at Westbury Pediatrics. Nisar is a graduate of King Edward Medical College at the University of Punjab. Nisar’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on September 15, 2008.

Clean Water Commission

Jan C. Tupper (R), 70 of Joplin, served as president of Allgeier, Martin and Associates, a consulting engineer firm. Tupper holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. Tupper’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on April 12, 2007.

Coordinating Board for Early Childhood Development

Susan S. Stepleton, 57 of Webster Groves, is the president and CEO of the Parents as Teachers National Center. Stepleton holds a bachelor’s degree from Butler University, masters degrees in social work and German studies from Washington University, a master’s of business administration from the University of Missouri- St. Louis and a doctorate in public policy administration from Washington University. Stepleton’s appointment is for a term ending at the pleasure of the governor.

Midwestern Higher Education Commission

Gerald T. Brouder, 63 of Columbia, is president of Columbia College. Brouder holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University, and a doctorate of philosophy from the University of Texas-Austin. Brouder’s reappointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on January 1, 2010.

Missouri Board of Occupational Therapy

Christy K. Ostrosky, 37 of Springfield, operates a private pediatric practice specializing in provision of school based services for children in rural school districts. Ostrosky holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s of rehabilitation sciences from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Ostrosky’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on December 11, 2008.

Missouri Real Estate Commission

Rosemary Vitale, 52 of Kansas City, is vice president of Reece & Nichols Realtors. Vitale attended Maple Woods Community College and is a certified new homes sales professional. Vitale’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on Oct. 16, 2010.

Sentencing Commission

Larry J. Joiner, 66 of Smithville, is a partner at Joiner & Hayes, an investigation company. Joiner holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Central Missouri State University. Joiner’s appointment is for a term ending at the pleasure of the governor.

State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors

Gary A. Fraker (R), 56 of Marshfield, owns Fraker Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. Fraker graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. Fraker’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on April 1, 2011.

State Interagency Coordinating Council

Carissa M. Mattern, 29 of O’Fallon, is an advocate for the special needs community. Mattern holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Mattern’s appointment is for a term ending at the pleasure of the governor.

Wendy Witcig, 44 of Kansas City, is the executive director of Triality Incorporated. Witcig holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Witcig’s appointment is for a term ending at the pleasure of the governor.
