Blunt Announces Nominations to State Boards and Commissions
JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri Governor Matt Blunt today announced his selections for various state boards and commissions. Several of the nominations are appointments initially made by former Gov. Bob Holden.
State Board of Cosmetology
Cynthia Bald, 46, of Cameron is Blunt's choice to serve on the State Board of Cosmetology. Bald has 25 years of experience in cosmetology and has served on the State Board for over two years. She graduated from Cameron High School and Terry’s School of Hair Fashion. The seven-member State Board of Cosmetology licenses and registers all cosmetologists, hairdressers and manicurists in Missouri. Bald’s term will expire in July 2008.
Missouri State Board of Nursing
Teri Murray, 47, of Florissant and Hillred Thurston, 56, of Dexter will serve on the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Murray is the director of the Undergraduate Nursing Program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis' Barnes College of Nursing. She received a bachelor of science in nursing from St. Louis University, a masters in adult/community education from the University of Missouri St. Louis, a masters in community health nursing from St. Louis University, and a doctorate in higher education administration from St. Louis University.
Thurston is a nurse at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She has 25 years of nursing experience. Thurston has served on the Missouri State Board of Nursing since 2001. She received an associate degree in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University.
The nine-member Missouri State Board of Nursing licenses by examination and renewal all nurses in the state. Both Murray and Thurston’s terms will expire in June 2008.
Missouri Head Injury Advisory Council
Charity Shelton, 32, of Mount Vernon will serve on the Missouri Head Injury Advisory Council. Shelton is a speech-language pathologist and the interim speech therapy coordinator at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center. Her research on traumatic brain injury has been published in the Journal of Cognitive Rehabilitation. She received a bachelors of science and a masters in communication sciences and disorders from Southwest Missouri State University. The Head Injury Advisory Council is made up of 25 members, 21 of whom are appointed by the governor. Shelton’s term will expire in May 2006.
Seismic Safety Commission
Donald Landon, 74, of Springfield will serve on the Seismic Safety Commission. Landon is professor emeritus in sociology at Southwest Missouri State University. Landon participates in multiple community service organizations including the American Red Cross. He received a bachelor of arts and a masters in sociology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and two doctorates in sociology from the University of Kansas. Landon represents the Red Cross on the 17-member Seismic Safety Commission. His term will expire in July 2006.
Amusement Ride Safety Board
James Harig, 60, of Labadie will serve as a member of the Amusement Ride Safety Board. Harig is the director of maintenance and construction at Six Flags St. Louis and is a professional engineer in Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin. He received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Marquette University. The nine-member Amusement Ride Safety Board is charged with drafting rules and regulations that keep amusement rides safe. Harig’s term will expire in April 2009.
Bi-State Development Agency of the Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan District (Metro)
Richard LaBore, 71, of St. Louis will serve on the Bi-State Development Agency of the Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan District (Metro). He is a Lutheran pastor and chairman of the theology department at Lutheran High School South in St. Louis. LaBore attended Concordia College in New York and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis where he received a master of divinity and master of sacred theology. He then studied at Washington University and St. Louis University where he earned his doctorate.
Metro's board is made up of 10 members who guide the system's policy and oversee the hiring and actions of the chief executive officer. LaBore’s term will expire in November 2008.
