Blunt Appoints Archie to State Board of Education

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today appointed Reverend Stanley A. Archie (D) to the State Board of Education.

Archie, 44 of Kansas City, is president of Kansas City Leadership Foundation and senior pastor of Christian Fellowship. Archie holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Calvary Bible College and a master’s in education from Mid-America Nazarene.

“Reverend Stanley Archie will be a strong advocate for ensuring that our children receive the best education Missouri has to offer,” Blunt said. “I am pleased that he has agreed to serve Missouri’s students in this capacity.”

Archie’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on July 1, 2014 and replaces Thomas Davis whose term expired.

Blunt is committed to ensuring that Missouri’s children receive a world class education and are well prepared to compete in the global economy. Education is the governor’s top public policy and budget priority. Since Blunt took office in 2005, Missouri public schools have seen the benefit of nearly a third of a billion dollars in new funding. In fiscal years 2006 and 2007, the increases exceeded the rate of inflation. Blunt has also fulfilled his pledge to never withhold money approved for Missouri classrooms. The governor’s Lewis & Clark Discovery Initiative will provide $350 million to higher education. The money will enable Missouri’s public colleges and universities to complete much needed capital improvement projects. The initiative will also help students obtain an affordable education by dramatically increasing funding for scholarships. The Lewis & Clark Discovery Initiative will also build the mechanism to allow universities to capitalize on their research and discoveries.
