Blunt Makes Appointments to Arts Council
Winter Nominated as Chairman
JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt announced the appointments of the following individuals to the Missouri State Council on the Arts.
Richard L. Winter, of St. Louis, is president of Garden View Care Centers of O’Fallon, Chesterfield and St. Louis. Winter received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in mathematics from St. Louis University. Winter also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri- St. Louis. Winter’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2009. His appointment as chairman of the council is subject to Senate confirmation.
Cynthia Cartwright, of Kansas City, is director of the Center for Arts and Letters at Rockhurst University. Cartwright received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. Cartwright’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2005.
Robert Epsten, of Kansas City, is chairman and CEO of Major Brands, Inc. Epsten received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Missouri. Epsten’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2005.
Gregory M. Glore, of Kansas City, is director of development for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Glore holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from Benedictine College. He received a fundraising certificate from the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Glore’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2006.
Dudley R. Grove, of St. Louis, is a former partner of Key Resource Associates. Grove is finance director for the H.C. Milford Campaign and a consultant for the Danforth Foundation. Grove’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2007.
Joan M. Israelite, of Lee’s Summit, is the president and CEO of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City. Israelite previously served as the development director for the Kansas City Symphony and the Lyric Opera. Israelite is an active volunteer in her community serving on the board of the Greater Kansas City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Downtown Sertoma Club of Kansas City, and National Society for Fundraising Executives. Israelite’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2007.
Dixie Kohn, of Park Hills, is the vice chancellor of University Relations at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Kohn received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a doctoral degree in education at UMC, a post-doctoral degree in social sciences from the University of Washington in Seattle and a juris doctorate from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Kohn was appointed to the Arts Council by former Gov. Wilson in 2001. Kohn’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2005.
Charles W. Salanski, of St. Joseph, was president and COO of Wire Rope Corporation of America. Salanski received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas. Salanski serves as vice-president of the St. Joseph Allied Arts Council. Salanski’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2006.
Glenn J. Sheffield, of Webster Groves, is a member of the board of directors for the Arts and Education Council of Greater St. Louis, Opera Theatre of St. Louis and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. Sheffield holds a degree in english literature from Smith College in Massachusetts. Sheffield’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2006.
Michael T. Vangel, of Columbia, is president of Vangel Marketing Communications. Vangel received a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Missouri- Columbia. Vangel is an award winning writer, designer, photographer and commercial director. Vangel’s appointment is for a term ending on Oct. 13, 2008.
The Missouri State Council on the Arts consists of fifteen members representative of all fields of the performing and fine arts, consisting of Missourians who are widely known for their professional competence and experience in connection with the performing and fine arts. The council provides grants to nonprofit organizations in order to encourage and stimulate the growth, development and appreciation of the arts throughout the state.
