American Red Cross Seeking Blood Donations
JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt and First Lady Melanie Blunt are asking Missourians to help out the American Red Cross by donating blood in response to Hurricane Katrina.
"We are witnessing the impact of this dangerous hurricane as evidence of its destruction continues to unfold," Blunt said. "I am asking all Missourians who can to please donate blood to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The need is going to last long after the initial shock of the disaster. Donors are needed now and over the weeks to come as relief efforts continue."
The American Red Cross has been asked to expedite their efforts and get blood to Dallas, Houston, Little Rock and Memphis in order to meet the demand for blood following the hurricane. The Red Cross also accepts financial contributions and volunteer assistance for those who are unable to give blood.
"It is important that all Missourians who can donate blood do so to help our fellow citizens in their time of need," First Lady Melanie Blunt said.
The governor will lead by example and host the Governor’s Mansion Blood Drive on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion. For more information on ways to help the American Red Cross visit their website at www.redcrossblood.org.
