Gov. Blunt Commends Montee for Completing His Request for Riverview Gardens School District Audit

ST. LOUIS – Gov. Blunt tonight commended State Auditor Susan Montee for completing his request for an audit of the Riverview Garden School District. Blunt requested the audit last May following discussions with Senator Tim Green and Representatives Gina Walsh and Theodore Hoskins.

"Concerns have been brought to my attention regarding the Riverview Gardens School District for over a year," said Blunt. "In May of 2006 I asked Auditor Montee’s predecessor to conduct an audit of the Riverview Gardens School District. I am pleased that it has finally been completed. It is in the best interest of the State to monitor and review those schools and school officials that are not acting in the best interest of the children in Missouri. We have many strong districts in the state of Missouri and steps should be taken to address problems that lessen the quality and integrity of our public school system."

Blunt, Green, Walsh and Hoskins became concerned about the accountability of the Riverview Gardens School District after local citizens raised concerns, and troubling reports appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that revealed the school district was not acting in the best interest of Missouri children.
