Blunt Applauds Senate Passage
of Castle Doctrine
Bill Protects Missourians When They Defend Themselves
JEFFERSON CITY–In his State of the State address, Gov. Matt Blunt urged legislators to pass legislation to protect Missourians when they use force to defend themselves. Today, he applauded the Missouri Senate for supporting his call with their passage of the Castle Doctrine.
“Law-abiding Missourians should be able to use force to defend themselves or their families without the fear of being sued,” Blunt said. “A person’s home is their castle and we need to ensure that our laws allow Missourians to take necessary protective actions when attacked. I applaud members of the Senate, and the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Goodman, for passing this important legislation”
Senate Bill 62, sponsored by Sen. Jack Goodman, protects Missourians from frivolous lawsuits when justified force is used to protect themselves or family against death, serious injury or any forcible felony.
The legislation now must be passed by the House of Representatives before it can be sent to the governor for his signature.
