Blunt Visits Clinton; Applauds First Responders, Local Outreach
CLINTON, MO–Gov. Matt Blunt today visited Clinton, where Monday night a downtown building partially collapsed killing Tony Komer and trapping nine others inside. The governor made the stop to learn more about the collapse, to offer his support to the community and thank first responders.
“My prayers remain with the people of Clinton who lost a loved one and an historic cornerstone of their downtown,” Blunt said. “I commend the first responders and community members who stopped at nothing to rescue those trapped inside and to ensure workers’ and bystanders’ safety. Their heroic dedication and quick reaction saved this from becoming an even greater tragedy.”
Local emergency response teams were assisted by the Kansas City area fire departments, and the Whiteman Air Force Base Recovery Team and the state’s Highway Patrol, Water Patrol, Division of Fire Safety, Missouri Task Force One and Department of Public Safety Command Bus.
