Blunt Appoints Cottom to Missouri Women’s Council
JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt announced the appointment of Mary R. Cottom as executive director of the Missouri Women’s Council.
Cottom, 55 of Hartsburg, served as Senator Anita Yeckel’s administrative assistant for more than five years and previously worked as the director of governmental affairs for the Missouri Propane Gas Association. Cottom has attended courses at Drury University, Dale Carnegie Course, Leadership Jefferson City and Thrust School of Real Estate.
The Missouri Women’s Council was established in 1985 by the State's 83rd General Assembly to identify and address issues affecting the economic and employment status of women in Missouri. The Council is comprised of 15 members, of which 11 are appointed by the governor.
As executive director, Cottom’s responsibilities include building awareness, educating, promoting opportunities and enhancing the lives and well being of women and their families throughout the state.
Cottom’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending at the pleasure of the governor. She replaces Cheryl E. Grazier who resigned.
