Blunt Announces Recipients of Preschool Project

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt announced today that fifteen Missouri school districts and private preschools have been awarded state grants to launch or expand early childhood education programs during 2006-07.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has selected the 15 programs to receive Missouri Preschool Project (MPP) grants totaling more than $1.7 million.

The MPP grant program has assisted more than 350 projects since it was created by state law in 1998. More than 4,600 3- and 4-year-old children are now being served by programs that receive support through MPP grants.

“Helping schools and communities provide high-quality early education programs is one of the best ways we can support families and young children,” Blunt said.

The following school districts and preschools have been selected to receive MPP grants for 2006-07:
