Blunt Grants DNR Authority to Help with Storm Cleanup

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today signed Executive Order 06-19 authorizing the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to temporarily suspend the operation of statutory or administrative rules and regulations to help with storm cleanup and recovery.

"Missouri has once again been devastated by severe storms that have ripped through communities and now require massive cleanup," Blunt said. "The latest executive order gives Director Doyle Childers the authority to suspend rules and regulations to accommodate the recovery process while protecting our state's natural resources."

DNR will have the discretion to waive laws and rules pertaining to waste disposal and open burning to eliminate debris as well as implement new procedures in order to best serve the interest of public and environmental health and safety during storm recovery efforts.
