Blunt Announces $8 Million Jump in DOR Audit Collections
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that Fiscal Year 2006 first quarter audit collections at the Department of Revenue (DOR) were up $8 million over the same period last year.
"I commend the Department of Revenue for their ongoing commitment to ensuring businesses and individuals are in compliance with our state’s tax laws," Blunt said. "Their focused efforts to identify returns with inaccuracies or mistakes help ensure the integrity of Missouri’s reporting and collection process."
Collections for the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2005 were $4.9 million compared to $13 million for the same period this year. These figures include collections benefiting state and local government. Of the increase, about $5 million was associated with increased corporate/franchise collections. The remaining $3 million was associated with an increase in sales tax audit collections.
Two corporate tax audits resulted in collections in excess of $1 million, and two sales tax audits resulted in cumulative collections of $2 million.
