Blunt Names Dierdorf as Chairman of St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission
ST. LOUIS — Gov. Matt Blunt today named former St. Louis football Cardinal great Daniel L. Dierdorf to serve as chairman of the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission effective August 29, 2005.
Dierdorf, 56 of St. Louis, is a broadcaster for CBS Sports’ NFL announcing team. He is a former all pro tackle in the NFL with the St. Louis Cardinals. Dierdorf was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996. He attended the University of Michigan where he was a two-time all Big Ten tackle and named to seven different All America teams. Dierdorf was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
Dierdorf sat on the board of directors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for 20 years, and the Emergency Room at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital was named after him in recognition for his work for the hospital. Dierdorf is owner of two Dierdorf and Hart’s steakhouses and part owner of The Big 550 KTRS radio.
"Dan Dierdorf will be a wonderful chairman of the Convention and Visitors Commission," Blunt said. "I am delighted that he is willing to serve the city, region and state in this manner."
The governor appoints the chairman of the commission to a two year term. The 11 member commission is responsible for managing several projects in downtown St. Louis including the Edward Jones Dome and The America’s Center. The commission works closely with all aspects of the hospitality industry in St. Louis. Dierdorf will replace J. Kim Tucci.
