Blunt Taps Ross to Serve on Appellate Judicial Commission
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt announced today that he has appointed Donald L. Ross, 63 of St. Louis, to the Appellate Judicial Commission. Blunt made the announcement during remarks at the Missouri Economic Development Council 2007 Winter Conference.
"I am pleased to announce that Don Ross has agreed to serve on this important commission," Blunt said. "Mr. Ross is committed to protecting our constitution by selecting judges who understand that their role is to interpret the law, not legislate from the bench. I am looking forward to working with the commission in establishing a judiciary that leaves the policy-making to Missouri's elected officials."
Mr. Ross is president and vice chairman of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He has been with the company for more than 40 years. Mr. Ross is active in numerous civic and community organizations. He is a board member of BJC Health Care and chairs their Patient Care and Quality Committee and is a member of the Archdiocese of St. Louis Finance Council.
The Appellate Judicial Commission is comprised of seven members. The governor appoints three non-lawyers, the Missouri Bar selects three lawyers and the Chief Justice of the Missouri Supreme Court chairs the commission. The commission is responsible for accepting applications and selecting three candidates to fill a judicial vacancy on the Supreme Court or the Court of Appeals. The governor then uses the list submitted by the commission to fill the judicial vacancy.
