Blunt Announces More than $480 thousand in Education Grants for Missouri

 

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that Missouri has received more than $480 thousand in education grants from the Cooperation for National & Community Service 2005 Learn and Serve America Continuation Grants.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) received $362,043 in school-based continuation grants. Missouri school districts are encouraged to develop service-learning programs in their schools. DESE will use the grants to issue sub-grants to school districts that promote service-learning projects for their students.

The Curators of the University of Missouri received $124,986 for the University of Missouri- Kansas City Center for the City (C4C) and Students in the City (SITC). The C4C focuses their resources on urban core revitalization in Kansas City. The SITC was created as an academic service-learning office to aid faculty and students in the development of civic leadership skills.
