Blunt Directs State Agencies to Respond to Abandoned Chicken Plant in Exeter
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today directed the Missouri Departments of Natural Resources and Public Safety as well as the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to respond to reports of an abandoned chicken processing plant in Exeter.
Preliminary reports indicate that the owner of Eskimo Packaging closed the facility earlier in the week shutting off the electricity and leaving 250,000 pounds of chicken to rot. The plant is located on Main Street near a school. The attorney general’s office has been notified and has been asked to take legal action against the owner.
"This is an unacceptable, irresponsible action on the part of this business owner that will not be taken lightly," Blunt said. "My administration will do everything possible to protect the health and well being of the people of Exeter and to see that this offender is brought to justice."
