Blunt Announces $2.6 Million in FEMA Grants for St. Louis
ST. LOUIS–Gov. Matt Blunt announced today that St. Louis City and St. Louis County will receive more than $2.6 million in grants to assist with debris removal as a result of the July 19-21 storms.
“I am pleased both the city and county will be reimbursed for some of the expenses they incurred as a result of this summer’s storms and power outages,” Blunt said. “These grants will better enable St. Louis City and County to manage the significant costs associated with the storm recovery and community clean-up.”
The City of St. Louis will receive $1,397,860.45 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for debris removal projects. The city’s Forestry Division collected and disposed of approximately 350,000 cubic yards of tree debris at three grinding staging sites. All work was completed in October.
St. Louis County will receive $1,244,294.80. St. Louis County contracted to remove 141 tons of spoiled food and an undetermined amount of tree debris from county property and 48 local municipalities.
FEMA obligates federal disaster funds directly to the State Emergency Management Agency, which will reimburse St. Louis City and County after reviewing cost documentation.
