FEMA Grants Blunt’s Request for Expanded Emergency Declaration for City of St. Louis
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved additional disaster assistance for the City of St. Louis. The assistance is to help the areas ongoing recovery from severe weather July 19-21, 2006.
“I am grateful to our Missouri Congressional Delegation, especially Sen. Jim Talent, who worked diligently with FEMA to secure the federal disaster declaration for the St. Louis area and expanded assistance for the City of St. Louis,” Blunt said. “The assistance will be invaluable as families and public facilities continue their recovery from the devastating storms.”
The expanded disaster declaration will provide public assistance for water control facilities, public buildings and contents, public utilities, parks, recreational and other public facilities. The previous declaration covered only emergency protective measures and debris removal on roads and bridges. Blunt requested the expanded declaration in August.
Damage assessments provided to FEMA showed the per capita damage for the City of St. Louis was $7.38, more than twice the standard indicator of $2.94. The governor made two personal visits to the area and saw firsthand how the severe weather, power outage and power line damage impacted Missourians.
