Blunt Seeks Expedited Federal Assistance for Missourians Impacted by Severe Weather
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt submitted a request for an Expedited Major Disaster Declaration to President Bush last night as a result of the recent severe weather and extreme heat conditions in Eastern Missouri.
St Louis City established 14 cooling centers and St. Louis County established 38 cooling centers to provide relief to residents suffering from the current excessive heat conditions. Several overnight shelters have been established.
Wednesday's storm system is directly attributed to one death and 30 injuries.
Blunt's request for the expedited federal declaration was submitted today to President Bush through the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region VII Office in Kansas City.
