Blunt Announces Insurance Director Dale Finke’s Retirement; Appoints Doug Ommen
JEFFERSON CITY–Governor Matt Blunt today announced that he has accepted the retirement notice given to him by Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration (DIFP) Director Dale Finke.
“Dale Finke has led the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration with honor during a time of transition at the department,” Blunt said. “I appreciate Dale’s service to our state and wish him well in his retirement.”
During Finke’s tenure the governor consolidated the Department of Insurance with the Department of Economic Development’s Divisions of Finance, Credit Unions, State Banking Board and Professional Registration creating the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration. The move has improved efficiency and cooperation among the related divisions and has facilitated enhanced customer service.
Blunt today named Doug Ommen as Finke’s replacement at DIFP. Ommen, of Jefferson City, is the current deputy director and general counsel for the department. Ommen holds a bachelor’s degree from Rockhurst College and a juris doctorate from Saint Louis University. Before joining DIFP, Ommen served as commissioner of securities at the Secretary of State’s Office from January 2001 until December 2004.
“I am pleased to name Doug Ommen as director of the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration,” Blunt said. “Doug shares my commitment to improving customer service and making state government more efficient so we can save money for the taxpayers. His understanding of the department and experience serving as commissioner of securities will be invaluable as he begins his new role.”
Ommen’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. He will immediately begin serving as director.
