Blunt Honors Missouri's Fallen Firefighters; Urges Passage of Good Samaritan Law
JEFFERSON CITY– Gov. Matt Blunt today spoke at the Line of Duty Memorial Service honoring the lives and memories of Missouri's fallen firefighters.
"We have all witnessed the dedication of our firefighters as they answer the call to ensure our safety," Blunt said. "These are the brave men and women who run into the burning buildings when others are trying to get out. I offer my heartfelt sympathy to Captain Alan Leake's family and all the families of our fallen firefighters as we remember these Missourians who gave their lives to protect others."
Today's Line of Duty Memorial Service honored the memory of Captain Alan Leake. Captain Leake was a veteran firefighter with the City of Fulton who died while on duty last April.
During his State of the State address, Blunt called for legislation to further protect firefighters, first responders and good Samaritans when they help a stranger during an emergency. The governor is calling on the General Assembly to pass legislation that protects volunteers from frivolous lawsuits when they act as Good Samaritans by offering help to a stranger during their time of need.
