Mansion Now Home to First Lady Melanie Blunt’s Portrait
Governor Expresses His Appreciation to First Lady
JEFFERSON CITY–Following last night’s unveiling of First Lady Melanie Blunt’s portrait at the Governor’s Mansion, Gov. Matt Blunt today expressed his appreciation for her sincere commitment to Missouri and to their family.
“It is difficult to express my enduring and heartfelt appreciation for Melanie’s wonderful work as wife, mother and First Lady and for her dedicated service to our great state,” Gov. Blunt said. “I am grateful for her loving support and strength each and every day.”
First Lady Melanie Blunt is the 28th first lady to have her portrait painted and added to the collection at the Missouri Governor’s Mansion. Gilbert “Chick” Early painted her portrait. The portrait is on display in the mansion’s Great Hall.
“As thousands of guests tour these rooms each year, it is the portraits that help bring our state’s history to life. I am truly honored to join in this lovely tradition,” Mrs. Blunt said. “Generations from now, as new First Families make their home in this, ‘The People’s House,’ I hope they will carry on the wonderful tradition.”
Missourians may see the portrait as part of the mansion tour on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to Noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are required 24-hours in advance, by calling (573) 751-7929 or online at www.missourimansion.org.
