Blunt Orders Flags Flown at Half-staff in Memory of Buck O’Neil
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that all flags at state facilities in Missouri will be flown at half-staff on Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14 to honor the memory of John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil, player and manager for the Kansas City Monarchs and the first African American coach in the major leagues when he joined the Chicago Cubs.
“Buck O'Neil was an outstanding baseball player and remarkable Missourian. He was a tremendous citizen who also was a great role model for young Missourians. He will be missed,” Blunt said.
Flags will remain at half-staff until dusk on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006.
