Blunt Announces Food Stamp Program Recognized for Performance
State awarded nearly $1.4 million for excellence
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that the Department of Social Services’ Family Support Division was awarded nearly $1.4 million by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for high performance in ensuring access to nutritional assistance through the Food Stamp Program.
“This award recognizes the hard work of our employees in the Food Stamp Program to help Missourians meet their nutritional needs,” Blunt said. “I am proud of our employees for this accomplishment.”
The USDA rewards states whose Food Stamp Program administration exhibits high or improved performance. The award also recognizes the importance of customer service in implementing the program.
A total of $18 million dollars was awarded to fourteen states in three categories: best application processing, best access and most improved access for eligible families. Missouri's best access award acknowledges the state's performance in enrolling those who are eligible for the nutritional assistance.
