Blunt Announces Grants to Support Missouri's AmeriCorps Members

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that the Missouri Community Service Commission has been approved to receive almost $2 million to place 334 AmeriCorps volunteers in Missouri over the next year.

"Missouri is blessed to be home to a wonderful spirit of generosity, and I am pleased AmeriCorps volunteers will be able to add to the tireless efforts already underway in communities across the heartland," Blunt said. "I congratulate the Missouri Community Service Commission for receiving this grant and thank all those who have answered the call to service by joining AmeriCorps."

AmeriCorps members will help address local needs, strengthen Missouri communities, and improve the civic life of our state. The $1,991,476 in grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service will support the AmeriCorps members in Missouri. The Missouri Community Service Commission oversees AmeriCorps and other volunteer and service programs for the state.

Since 1994, more than 6,885 Missouri residents have provided more than 8,965,313 hours to local communities through AmeriCorps.

Missouri"s AmeriCorps program is administered by the Missouri Community Service Commission, which is housed within the Missouri Department of Economic Development"s Division of Business and Community Services.
