Blunt's Call for Savings Leads to New State Capitol Guidebook

JEFFERSON CITY–Following Gov. Matt Blunt's call to identify cost-savings for taxpayers, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) created a new souvenir guidebook for the State Capitol that cut costs by 40 percent.

"Missourians can be proud of our State Capitol, with its impressive architecture, art and history. This book showcases a proud symbol of our state," Blunt said. "I commend the Department of Natural Resources for creating this new book while at the same time reducing unnecessary costs."

The new format for the guidebook allowed the department to take advantage of bulk printing discounts to reduce the costs of the guidebooks. The souvenir guidebook, which used to sell for $5, is now available for sale at the main Capitol desk for only $3.

The new guidebook is the first update to the Capitol book in more than 25 years. The 24-page full-color publication is filled with photographs, details and history about the Missouri State Capitol in a more contemporary design. The new edition features information on the Capitol's history, architectural features, artwork, the dome and rotunda, the Missouri State Museum, and the Thomas Hart Benton murals among other features.
