Blunt Names Henry Herschel General Counsel

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today appointed Henry Herschel to serve as his general counsel.

Herschel is currently the general counsel for the Office of Administration (OA) and will replace Jane Drummond who was recently appointed director of the Department of Health and Senior Services.

At OA Herschel served as primary counsel to the department and advised the director and staff on legal opinions on purchasing, personnel and other policies relating to the office. Herschel also supervised legislative initiatives that pertained to OA.

Herschel previously served as director of research for the Missouri Senate where he provided legal and legislative support for all state senators. Herschel has served in the Office of the Missouri Attorney General serving as chief counsel of consumer protection and public protection division.

“Henry’s extensive legal background and state government experience will serve him well in his new position,” Blunt said. “I am honored that Henry will join our team as we continue to bring real and positive changes to the people of Missouri.”

Herschel holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and English from Marquette University and a juris doctorate from Washington University.

Blunt also announced that Bill Anderson will serve as his Director of Policy. Anderson, 30, of Jefferson City has worked as policy advisor in the office since 2005. He previously worked for the Illinois Bureau of the Budget. Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s in economics and finance from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.
