Gov. Matt Blunt Statement Supporting English Language Resolution

JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on the General Assembly’s passage of House Joint Resolution 7, which if approved by the voters, will require that English be the language of all official proceedings in Missouri.

“This resolution provides Missouri voters the opportunity to ensure that all official proceedings in our state are conducted in English. English is the common language and it should be the language that governs official proceedings. At the same time, we have worked to ensure government is accessible to those who do not speak English and will continue to do so.”

The resolution proposes a constitutional amendment that will go before Missouri voters in November 2008.
