Blunt Prepares Missouri Resources in Anticipation of Hurricane Rita
JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt today signed two Executive Orders to prepare Missouri resources in advance of Hurricane Rita.
Blunt signed Executive Order 05-34 directing Adjutant General King Sidwell to activate Missouri’s National Guard. The executive order calls for General Sidwell to prepare the guard to provide assistance in the areas that might be impacted by Hurricane Rita.
"The Gulf coast is once again in harm’s way as Hurricane Rita is approaching the Texas and Louisiana coasts," Blunt said. "I pledged that Missouri will continue to help with the recovery efforts of Hurricane Katrina and we will, of course, offer any assistance necessary as a result of Hurricane Rita."
The governor also signed Executive Order 05-35 issuing a state of emergency for Missouri. The executive order directs the State Emergency Management Agency to activate the state’s emergency plan in response to Hurricane Rita.
The effective date of both executive orders is today and remains in effect until Oct. 31, 2005 unless extended by the governor.
