Blunt Responds to Iowa Governor’s Request for Emergency Assistance

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today responded to Iowa Gov. Chet Culver’s request for assistance by waiving requirements for trucks carrying emergency supplies to help Iowa recover from a severe ice storm.

“As Missourians we can empathize with the citizens of Iowa who are now picking up the pieces from a severe ice storm,” Blunt said. “We recognize that a state of emergency exists in Iowa so I am directing MoDOT to lift trip requirements to help expedite the delivery of emergency supplies to our neighbor to the north.”

Blunt has directed that commercial motor vehicle regulatory requirements regarding the purchase of trip permits for registration and fuel be waived for those bringing supplies to the devastated areas. The governor also asked the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to issue permits for over-dimension and overweight to commercial motor carriers engaged in relief efforts.

An individual seeking to obtain a permit is required to supply MoDOT with the following information: year, make and license plate number of power unit and trailer; size, make and serial number of commodity being transported; origin, destination and consecutive routing; overall width, height, length and length of trailer and load only; and date of movement. The permit process can be expedited by calling (866) 831-6277, (573) 526-5314 or (573) 522-8176.
