Blunt Readies State in Anticipation of Severe Winter Weather

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today activated the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure state resources are positioned to aid Missourians in anticipation of expected severe winter weather.

“My first concern is for the safety of all Missourians as we anticipate another dangerous winter weather system to strike Missouri,” Blunt said. “We are taking this action now to ensure that the state is ready and prepared to assist Missourians should the need arise.”

Blunt activated SEMA at response level one, which means approximately six personnel are on site at SEMA headquarters and additional SEMA staff remain on standby. SEMA staff will monitor weather throughout the weekend and continue to assess needed resources.
