Blunt Encourages Missourians to Have a Safe Fourth of July Holiday
JEFFERSON CITY– Gov. Matt Blunt today encouraged Missourians to have a happy and safe 4th of July holiday.
"As we join with friends, family and neighbors it is important for us to remember the freedoms we enjoy are ours because of sacrifices made in the past. Throughout our history there has been a struggle to ensure that the ideals of faith, family and freedom were protected, honored and used to guide our nation's actions," Blunt said. "Melanie, Branch and I wish everyone a very happy and safe Fourth."
The Fourth of July has a reputation of being among the most dangerous holidays in our country. The governor reminds Missourians to drive responsibly and to be cautious when handling fireworks and to make responsible decisions as we celebrate our independence.
As with any event or holiday that draws large crowds the governor's first concern is always for the safety of Missourians. He asks Missourians to be vigilant for any suspicious activity and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities. Blunt has directed the state's homeland security to work with law enforcement officials to help ensure Missourians have a safe and happy Fourth of July.
