Blunt Announces Nearly $1.5 Million in Juvenile Justice Grants

JEFFERSON CITY–Governor Matt Blunt announced that nearly $1.5 million dollars in juvenile justice grants have been awarded to community and local government agencies in Missouri.

“The juvenile justice grants provided vital support to strengthen Missouri communities for both present and future generations,” Blunt said. “It is important that we reach out to at risk teens to help them become productive members of society.”

Juvenile justice grants were awarded for the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant, totaling $775,896.69; and for the Title II Formula Grant, totaling $650,552.23. Juvenile Accountability Block grants are typically awarded to local governmental agencies, such as juvenile and family courts while Title II grant recipients include local government and community-based agencies.

The Juvenile Accountability Block Grant provides federal funds to local governments for delinquency intervention and court services programming, equipment upgrades, such as security and transportation equipment, and capital improvements. Title II grants are awarded to applicants that provide innovative restorative justice, aftercare or reentry, and delinquency prevention services to juveniles.

Blunt’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Group (JJAG) continuously monitors and reviews all award recipients to ensure they remain compliant with state statutes and grant guidelines.
