Blunt Appoints New Commissioners to the Kansas City Election Board
KANSAS CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt has nominated two new members to serve on the Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners.
Blunt, Missouri’s former secretary of state, led the effort to reform Missouri’s election laws in 2002, which led to record voter turnout in August and November 2004. Blunt is committed to improving the election process throughout the state.
The following are Blunt’s nominations to the Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners:
Joseph D. Serrano (D) is a member of the trusts and estates department at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, LLP. Serrano holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri- St. Louis, a master’s degree in laws in taxation from the University of Missouri- Kansas City and a juris doctorate from the University of Kansas Law School. Serrano replaces Cheryl Bisbee whose term expired.
Cynthia G. Thompson (R) is a secondary market mortgage lender at Heritage State Bank. Thompson received a bachelor’s degree in family economics and management from the University of Missouri- Columbia. Thompson replaces Bruce Waugh whose term expired. The appointments of Serrano as secretary and Thompson to the election board are subject to Senate confirmation.
