Blunt Issues Executive Order in Response to Hurricane Katrina

JEFFERSON CITY—Gov. Matt Blunt today issued Executive Order 05-23 to ensure citizens impacted by Hurricane Katrina have immediate access to the supplies they need to begin recovery.

Blunt has directed that commercial motor vehicle regulatory requirements regarding the purchase of trip permits for registration and fuel be waived for those bringing supplies to the devastated areas. The governor also asked the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to issue permits for over-dimension and overweight to commercial motor carriers engaged in the hurricane relief efforts.

An individual seeking to obtain a permit is required to supply MoDOT with the following information: year, make and license plate number of power unit and trailer; size, make and serial number of commodity being transported; origin, destination and consecutive routing; overall width, height, length and length of trailer and load only; and date of movement. The permit process can be expedited by calling (800) 877-8499, (573) 526-5314 or (573) 526-5312.

The executive order is effective today and remains in effect until the National Declaration of Emergency expires, any emergency declarations issued by the governors of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi expire or October 25, 2005 at 12:01 a.m.
