Blunt Appoints Law Enforcement Veteran to Direct Alcohol & Tobacco Control

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt has named former ATF agent Pete Lobdell 58, of Parkville, Mo., to serve as State Supervisor for Alcohol and Tobacco Control under Mark James, Director of Public Safety.

Lobdell comes to the position with over 28 years of law enforcement experience. He received a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Indiana University and began his career in 1976 with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). In August 2004 he retired as a supervisory special agent of an enforcement group for the Kansas City Division.

"Pete Lobdell has a keen understanding of the delicate balance a dual mission law enforcement and regulatory agency must maintain," Blunt said. "His nearly three decades of enforcing federal alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives laws will serve the State of Missouri well."

The Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control was established in 1934 to collect license fees and taxes, issue alcohol licenses to bars and restaurants, and enforce liquor control and tobacco laws.
