Blunt Builds on Summit Success; Launches Math, Engineering, Technology, Science Website

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today launched a website dedicated to Math, Engineering, Technology and Science (METS). The site showcases the data book Making Missouri a National Leader in Math, Engineering, Science and Technology and other valuable information generated as a result of the governor’s initiative to promote METS.

After visiting schools across the state Blunt hosted a Math and Science Summit to open an invaluable dialogue among stakeholders and to design strategies to improve METS education and address current challenges facing Missouri. The summit agenda, data book and speaker biographies are all included on the new website. In addition the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, Civic Progress, the Regional Business Council, Missouri School Boards Association, and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact supported the production of a DVD of the summit. The DVD features speakers and panel discussions and will be used by participants to raise awareness of current challenges and to help inspire local partnerships and METS initiatives.

A link to the new website is featured on the governor’s homepage. The METS page is also directly accessible at http://gov.mo.gov/mets/.

Blunt’s interim working group, the Math and Science Alliance, is working to build an action plan for the state based on strategies discussed at the conference. The plan will be submitted to the governor by August 31 and will provide guidance to help make Missouri a global leader in METS.
