Blunt Applauds Missouri National Guard's Energy Conservation Efforts
JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt applauded the Missouri National Guard (MONG) for implementing energy saving initiatives and eliminating unnecessary costs.
“The Missouri National Guard's energy conservation efforts reflect my call to seek every opportunity to save taxpayer dollars,” Blunt said. “With this initiative and others we continue to be successful in establishing a more limited government that Missourians can afford.”
The Missouri National Guard utilizes energy tracking software to more accurately track and analyze energy usage and costs at their facilities. The software helps identify which facilities need an energy conservation remake.
An energy audit, funded by the Federal Energy Management Program, identified cost savings opportunities at the Kansas City Armory. A project has been completed to replace the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, office lighting and the addition of building controls expects to save $18,000 a year in energy savings.
A selection committee was formed with the Office of Administration Design and Construction to choose a building controls vender for MONG. C & C Group was chosen as the provider. There are currently two HVAC renovations completed and three underway that include building controls. All new construction will incorporate these types of controls. Building control is a vital function to control energy use in buildings.
Several lighting upgrades to more efficient equipment have been completed including Ike Skelton Training Site, Kansas City, Trenton and Lexington Armories.
A contract with ONEOK to buy natural gas for MONG at Ike Skelton Training Site has saved $22,000 a year.
