Blunt Taps Columbia Civic Leader to Serve as UM Curator

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today announced he will name Buford M. (Bo) Fraser (R), of Columbia, to the University of Missouri Board of Curators.

“Bo Fraser is a strong supporter of the University of Missouri,” Blunt said. “His service will make a great addition to the Board of Curators.”

Fraser, 64, is chairman of the board of Boone County National Bank and previously served as CEO and chairman for over twenty years. Fraser holds a bachelor's degree in business from Benedictine College. He presently serves on the board of directors and finance committee at Benedictine College. Fraser is a founding member of the Community Development Cooperative formed to address housing issues in the central part of Columbia. He is also a founding member of the Regional Economic Development Inc. formed to promote economic development in Boone County.

Fraser is involved in a number of University of Missouri activities. He is a member of the Jefferson Club, Capital Campaign for All We Call Mizzou and MU Land Use & Urban Development Committee. The University of Missouri College of Business awarded Fraser a special citation of merit.

The Board of Curators is the governing body of a four-campus system including the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the University of Missouri-Rolla and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. State law requires that the board be filled by a certain number of Republicans and Democrats from each of Missouri's nine congressional districts.

Fraser's appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. He replaces Thomas Atkins whose term expires Jan. 1, 2007. Fraser would represent the 9th Congressional District on the Board of Curators.
