Blunt Appoints New Chair to St. Louis City Election Board

JEFFERSON CITY–Gov. Matt Blunt today appointed Kimberly J. Mathis (R) as chair of the Board of Election Commissioners for St. Louis City.

Mathis, 33 of St. Louis City, is an attorney at Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin since 1998. Mathis’s focus is in the areas of labor, employment and education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Saint Louis University and a juris doctorate from Washington University.

“Kimberly Mathis will make a great addition to the St. Louis City Election Board,” Blunt said. “She is joining the board at a time when our state is becoming a leader in protecting the sanctity of the elections process with our new voter identification law. Her legal background will be an asset to the City through the elections process and I am pleased she has agreed to accept this responsibility.”

Mathis’ appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on Jan. 10, 2009. Mathis replaces Ed Martin who resigned to serve as Blunt’s Chief of Staff.
